Gifted Family Advisory Committee: GFAC

The GFAC (Gifted Family Advisory Committee) meets once a month from September through May (skipping December) on the third Wednesday of the month from 5:30-6:30 p.m. These meetings take place over Zoom and a link will be emailed out prior to each meeting. The meetings are scheduled as follows:

The purpose of the GFAC is to provide feedback and perspective from families and community members to the DAAC (District Academic Accountability Committee) on the topics of academics, safety, community outreach, and program expenditures. 
 
The GFAC sets biennial goals to support the 9-R Gifted Program.
2020-2022 Goal:  Effective communication and support involving all stakeholders regarding ALP’s, Programming, and Community Engagement.

Gifted & Talented Parent Advisory Council 

General By-Laws/Rules of Operation

Purpose

The Durango School District 9-R Gifted & Talented Parent Advisory Council, herein known as GT PAC offers parents and educators of the Durango School District 9-R the opportunity to gather input and concerns from various stakeholders, to help with long-range planning for the Gifted & Talented Program (GT Program), to help with Durango AU programming evaluation, and to make recommendations for improvement to the District Academic Accountability Committee. The GT PAC serves as an advisory committee to the District Academic Accountability Committee to offer suggestions and advice regarding the 9-R GT Program and our district. A GT PAC representative will report to the DAAC at the monthly DAAC meetings. A summary report of recommendations will be provided to the District Academic Accountability Committee as directed.
 

Membership

Membership is based upon application. The GT PAC shall be composed of the following stakeholders: - three (3) GT teachers to include one (1) elementary, one (1) middle school, and one (1) high school (minimum quarterly attendance) - one (1) district specialist - two (2) high school and two middle school student representatives invited for information and feedback (BOY, EOY) - a minimum of six (6) community members of which at least one-half are parents - one (1) school board member Members agree to serve a minimum of two-year term and are recruited in the fall. GT PAC members work together to facilitate the mission of Durango 9-R: the district may grow to become, an innovative educational system committed to excellence, to ensure each student develops the skills and attributes for lifelong learning. Through leading instructional models, globally minded learning programs, and engaging teaching and learning methods, the district aims to instill in each student the ability to compete and contribute in the global community. 2 Furthermore, the district encourages supportive and safe school environments, guaranteeing equitable educational opportunities for each and every student. If the minimum membership requirements are unable to be met, current members may be invited to continue on the GT PAC for additional years.
 

Attendance

GT PAC members are expected to attend each scheduled meeting. Attendance may be excused for reasonable cause by informing the GT Specialist prior to the meeting. Three consecutive unexcused absences from GT PAC may result in a member being requested to resign. In that event, earlier applications to GT PAC will be reexamined to request replacement by a new member.

Officers

GT PAC officers will include a chair or co-chairs, a representative from the GT Program, and a secretary. The chair/co-chairs will be selected to fulfill a one-year term and shall preside at all committee meetings. Agendas and minutes will be provided to each committee member and will be posted on the GT Program Webpage on the Durango 9-R Website in a timely manner.
 

Meetings

A regular meeting shall be held once a month from October through May, excluding December. Additional meetings may be called as needed. All meetings will be open and advertised to the public. The public is invited to make brief, relevant comments at a designated time at the meetings. Comments and questions should deal with topics related to GT PAC concerns. Please provide solution-based commentary that addresses issues and provides potential avenues of development. TDSAC chair or co-chairs shall reserve the right to limit the length of presentations or impose other restraints in the interest of timely and orderly conduct of the meeting. Shared public input will be taken under advisement.
 

Quorum and Voting

A simple majority of the total membership shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business and validity of any vote. A 2/3 majority of those present and eligible to vote shall be necessary to elect and decide a question. Only members of the committee are eligible to vote.
