Durango School District 9-R Supports Satellite Libraries

Durango School District 9-R and the Friends of the Durango Public Library have partnered with La Plata County to ensure funding continuity in 2018 for the branch libraries at Sunnyside and Fort Lewis Mesa elementary schools.

I want to thank our community for the participation in last week’s Suicide Prevention Summit sponsored by many community organizations and facilitated by San Juan Basin Health Department.  It was a good first step for us to begin problem solving and planning for critical next steps as a community.

DAAC Wants to Hear from You

Growing Great Brains Expo Educates the Community

Students from Duane Tucker's 6th grade language arts classes at Escalante and Erica Dey's AVID 7th graders from Miller presented their projects on the human brain to the community at Fort Lewis College Wednesday night. Their engaging presentations educated the public on topics ranging from how classroom furniture can impact learning to how the ability to change DNA can impact brain growth.

Former Mustang Visits

Noah Hotchkiss, a former Florida Mesa Elementary Mustang, has made the best out of a bad situation after being disabled in a major car accident 9 years ago. Leading the way for Wheelchair Basketball, Noah came to Florida Mesa Elementary this week to share his passion for the sport with his alma mater, and show just how fun the equipment is.

Durango School District 9-R Announces New Personnel

Durango School District 9-R announces two new personnel assignments that will be effective for the 2017/18 school year. The first new employee to welcome is long-time Board of Education (BOE) member and current BOE president, Andy Burns, who will now support the district as its Chief Operations Officer (COO).

San Juan Basin Public Health is planning a Suicide Prevention Community Summit to engage local individuals, families, organizations, and businesses in a community-based event focused on building support for suicide prevention.
