Staff who are .51 FTE (Licensed) or .625 (Support) or more may enroll in medical, dental and vision insurance. If the FTE is .25 - .50, the district will pay for half of the “employee only” health and dental premium and the full life insurance premium. The employee is responsible for the difference. Employees with an FTE of less than .25 are not eligible for district insurance benefits. If an employee elects to have dependent coverage, the employee will pay the additional premium for the dependent(s). If an employee elects to have vision coverage or supplemental products, the employee will pay the full premium. The employee will be responsible for the continuation of coverage through prepaid payroll deductions at the employee’s expense for coverage July through September.
New employees will be eligible for insurance on the first of the month following 30 days of employment. New employees have 30 days from the date of hire to enroll in insurance coverage. Employees may add dependents to their coverage due to a qualifying event, such as; marriage/divorce, birth/death, if a spouse who has coverage outside of the district loses their coverage with their employer, or during open enrollment each spring. Open enrollment has a July 1st effective date. Employees may drop dependent coverage at any time, except vision, if the premiums are deducted on a post-tax basis. If the premiums are deducted on a pre-tax basis, changes in coverage may only occur during open enrollment or under certain IRS qualifying events. Vision coverage may only be added or dropped during open enrollment, which occurs each spring. Open enrollment has a July 1st effective date. The District also offers voluntary products through American Fidelity. These products are optional and the premiums are the responsibility of the employee, paid with a payroll deduction. Some of the products include cancer, accident, disability, life insurance, and Section 125 plans, like flexible spending plans for medical and dependent care and Health Savings Accounts.
