Communications

The Communications team shares information with many different people: staff, students, families, community members, and media. Our goal is to be transparent about district news and share positive stories from our schools. We use many channels to communicate in an effort to reach everyone. This includes phone conversations, emails, website, social media channels, Infinite Campus, press releases, events, and news briefs. Logos, signage, documents, and brochures are also designed and written by Communications, including the Strategic Plan and Portrait of a Graduate materials

Crisis communication

During emergencies and Snow Day alerts, Communications shares information through the district's phone, text, and email mass-notification system. If you are not receiving messages, or wish to update your contact information, please follow these steps:

  • To receive phone calls: Call 855-502-7867 from the phone line you wish to receive calls and follow the prompts.

  • To receive text messages: Text START to "60680" from the phone you wish to receive texts.

  • Note that if you opt out by typing "STOP" to any emergency message from the district, you will no longer receive any messages.

Digital newsletters

Community Update

Every Friday afternoon, we send out a digital Community Update newsletter to school families and community members. While each school family's primary contact (as indicated in Infinite Campus) is automatically subscribed, everyone is welcome to sign up.

Past newsletters are available. Contact us with your request for a specific newsletter date.

We Are DSD

Every Thursday afternoon during the school year, we deliver a digital We Are DSD newsletter to staff.

Flyer distribution in schools

Our district collaborates with community groups and organizations that sponsor activities of an educational or enrichment nature for students or staff. If they fit our criteria and follow our policy, these groups are allowed to distribute materials electronically through Peachjar. Our district does not allow any printed flyers to be delivered, posted, or hand-delivered to students at our schools.

Digital flyers delivered via email through Peachjar software enables community groups to easily reach parents electronically year-round and increase registrations for their programs, activities, and events. Parents appreciate Peachjar because they can easily access important information and resources from their school and community and click to take action.

For specific guidelines on uploading a flyer, visit our Flyer Distribution Policy page.

Website content management

The Communications team updates the district website and supports school administrative staff in managing individual school website content. Together, we add news stories to each of the home pages. Our goal is to make the websites easy to navigate, informative, and engaging and accessible for all visitors. If you have suggestions on how to improve our content, please email us

How to get involved

Family engagement is key to students' success.
