9-R 2017 Farm-to-School Beef Bid

School districts in Southwest Colorado work together to purchase beef from Colorado ranchers to bring healthier, sustainably produced and regionally sourced food to our lunch programs

Shared School Hosts Registration

The Durango 9-R Shared School Program is currently taking applications for the 2017-18 school year. The shared school program is designed for home school families, and offers such classes as art, music, drama, PE and Spanish. The district offers two program choices for elementary students, K-5. There is a two-day a week program that meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am until 3:00pm, and a one-day a week program that meets on Wednesdays from 8:10am until 3:00pm. Middle school classes, 6-8 also meet on Wednesdays from 8:10am until 3:00pm. All classes are held at Miller Middle School. Durango 9-R Announces Two New School Leaders

Durango School District 9-R announces two new school leaders who will join the district for the 2017/18 school year. Vicki Trousdale, who is current assistant principal at Miller Middle School, will step into the role of principal; and Marie Voss-Patterson, also assistant principal but at Park Elementary, will also take on the role of principal.

Big Picture Students Receive Scholarships

On Monday, February 27th members of the Durango Education Foundation (DEF) Board of Trustees and Rob Sachs of Sachs Construction visited Durango Big Picture High School to recognize the hard work of two of our students. Seniors Sophia Kincaid and Anna Caplan were awarded scholarships that recognized their determination and ability to overcome obstacles.

Congratulations to this month's FORTitude Award winner!

On February 23rd, Maria Ines Cruz Rubalcava was recognized as the DHS student of the month for February and awarded the DHS and Fort Lewis College FORTitude Award. Ines was nominated for the award for her grit and for being a respectful student who leads by example.

Sunnyside Zipline Dedicated to Jeff Kuss

On Thursday, February 9th Sunnyside Elementary welcomed the family of the late Jeff Kuss, a Blue Angels pilot, to the dedication of the school's zipline and buddy bench. These new playground features have been dedicated to the memory of Jeff Kuss, who attended Sunnyside Elementary. Principal Patrick Hyatt encouraged students to chase their dreams as Jeff did, saying of the zipline, "Jeff flew, now you students can also fly." Principal Hyatt also presented Jeff' parent's Michael and Janet, and brother Eric with a Bulldog Proud award in recognition Jeff's life and achievements.
