1. Transportation Cost Breakdown
Vehicle Mileage Charges
(Driver charges not included)

School Bus: $2.25 per mile

Mini Bus / Suburban: $0.51 per mile
Driver Charges

District School Activity (Educational Use): $20.00 per hour (on duty)

Non-District Use: $25.00 per hour (on duty)
Note: Non-District refers to outside organizations not affiliated with Durango 9-R, such as the Iron Horse Race or Thirsty 13.
2. Cleaning Fee
-
A minimum $100 cleaning fee will be charged if an activity vehicle is returned dirty.

Additional charges may apply depending on the level of dirt or damage.
3. Weekday Activity Timing
-
All weekday activities using transportation services must be completed by 2:15 p.m.

If your activity will extend beyond that time, please contact the Bus Barn in advance.
4. Extended Vehicle Requests

To keep a mini bus or suburban longer than scheduled, call the Bus Barn at (970) 247-5335 to request an extension.
ID card information
Student ID Badge / Bus Pass Replacement Policy
Purpose
Student ID badges and bus passes are essential for:

Student identification
-
Campus security
-
Access to the district's school bus transportation system
All students must have a valid ID badge in their possession while on school property.
Procedures for Lost Student ID Badges or Bus Passes
If a student loses their ID badge or bus pass:
-
Report the loss
The student or guardian must report the loss to the school’s front office within 24 hours of noticing the badge is missing. -
Verification
The school office will verify the loss by contacting the parent or guardian. -
Replacement request
The school will enter the request into the automated Student Badge Replacement system. -
If the lost badge is found later
-
The old badge must be turned in to the front office.
-
It will not work with the Transfinder bus system after deactivation.

Replacement cost
-
A $10 fee will be charged per replacement.
-
Payment options include cash, check, credit card, or an emailed payment link.
-

Timing
-
The new badge is typically ready in 3–5 business days and can be picked up from the school’s front office.

Frequent replacements
-
If a student requests five or more replacements, the school administration may schedule a meeting with the parent or guardian to discuss the issue.

Exceptions and Financial Hardships

Fee Waivers
Students participating in the following programs are exempt from the $10 fee:-
Free and Reduced Lunch Program

McKinney-Vento Program
If your child qualifies, please notify the school office when payment is requested.

IEP or 504 Students
-
Students with an IEP or 504 plan are not exempt from the replacement fee.

Financial hardship

Families who cannot afford the replacement cost may submit a written fee waiver request to the school principal or a designated administrator.

Students are responsible for the safekeeping of their ID badge or bus pass.

The ID badge must be in the student’s possession at all times on school property.

Regulations for Student IDs on Buses
All students enrolled in district or charter schools are issued Student ID cards. These IDs serve multiple purposes:

Primary use: Scanning for school bus transportation, to enhance safety, accountability, and track usage.

Additional uses:

Field trips and activity buses
-
City Transit pass access
-
ID Requirements on Buses
-
All students must carry their Student ID when riding the bus.
-
Middle School and High School students are required to wear their Student ID at all times, both on the bus and at school.
Misplaced Student IDs
When Riding the Bus:

If a student forgets or loses their ID:
-
They will be reminded to locate it or request a new one at the school office.
-

Second offense (morning ride):
-
The student may ride the bus to school.
-
The school will call the parent or guardian.
-
A behavior write-up will be issued.
-

Second offense (afternoon ride):
-
The student will not be allowed to ride the bus home.
-
They must go to the office to call their parent or guardian for pickup.
-
Proof of a replacement request may allow them to board.

Replacing Student IDs
Student Responsibilities:

Replacement Fees:

If the ID is defective and shows no deliberate damage, it will be replaced free of charge.

Fees are collected at the time the replacement is ordered.

Replacement IDs will be issued to students once created.
ID Distribution and Use by Grade Level
Middle and High School Students:

Will receive their ID directly from their school.

No other personal information will appear on the card.

Regular bus riders must scan their ID when boarding and exiting the bus daily.

Other students must retain their ID for use on activity buses.
Elementary School Students:

All students receive an ID with:

District logo (no school-specific designation)
-

IDs are designed to attach to a backpack or be worn in a secure location to prevent loss.

If a family opts out of using a student photo due to privacy policies, the ID will feature only the district logo.
