Registration

Registration for schools opens on Feb 2. Existing families need to log into their Infinite Campus Parent Portal account and complete the online registration form for the 2026-27 school year. Families who do not have access to a computer may complete the online registration at the school by using the kiosk that is available for new and existing families. Please call or stop by the school to arrange an appointment. After completing online registration, families will still need to complete the enrollment process with the school.

Kindergarten registration opens Feb 2

Our kindergarten programs are full-day classes and follow the school district calendar. Children are eligible for kindergarten if they are 5 years old on or before Sept. 1. All kindergarten classes are free. If you want your kindergarten child to attend a school outside your attendance area, please follow the open enrollment process.

Open House events for kindergarten and preschool

Families and new students are invited to come learn about our preschool and kindergarten programs at our spring 2026 Open House events. Families will learn about our schools and what to expect for the upcoming school year, and will have an opportunity to complete and turn in necessary registration forms. Please bring proof of residency, birth certificate, and immunization records.

Kindergarten Screening Events

If your child is entering kindergarten in the 2026-27 school year, we welcome you to participate in our kindergarten screenings. Kindergarten screenings are an  opportunity for parents and families to see how their students are doing and what their students can work on in order to be successful in kindergarten. Students will engage in a 45 minute global screener. Parents will hear back on how their student did and learn ways to support their student and take home materials to practice essential skills.

For spring 2026, kindergarten screenings are scheduled as follows:

• Monday, April 20, 12:00-3:00 p.m. at the Durango Public Library

• Wednesday, April 22, 3:15-6:15 p.m. at Needham Elementary School

• Saturday, May 2, 8:45 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at Needham Elementary School

Preschool interest forms and application

Preschool interest forms are now being accepted. Universal Preschool is available to all students who are 4 years of age by Sept. 1. Universal Preschool offers 15 hours of free programming per week for all students in the year prior to kindergarten.

• Please complete the preschool interest form through the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC).

• To apply, please complete the Universal Preschool application through the CDEC website and select your neighborhood school as your first choice. If you are unable to do so, contact Jennifer Baufield at 970-247-5411, ext. 1468. Please leave a message for a return call.

Registration for open enrollment opens April 1. Open enrollment applies to all students in grades K-12 who either live outside of Durango School District boundaries or wish to attend a different school than the one assigned to their neighborhood.

• Important note: The open enrollment application is not a substitute for registration. Both online registration and the open enrollment application must be completed.

  • As you complete your online registration, please select your school of residence, as indicated on the district's School Boundary Map. If you wish to apply outside of your school of residence, please also complete the open enrollment process. If your open enrollment application is accepted, the school registrar will switch your registration to the correct school.

Determine your school of residence

Before starting our online registration process, we ask that you locate your school of residence using our School Boundary Map. Simply enter your street address, city, and state into the address field to find your attendance boundary school. This will be the school that you should request on your application.

Collect these records

Please have the following documentation handy before starting your online registration:

• Your child's immunization records (can be uploaded during registration or brought to school)

• Proof of residency (can be uploaded during registration or brought to school)

• Proof of age verification:

• • Birth certificate
  • A religious, hospital, or physician’s certificate showing date of birth
  • An adoption record
  • A baptismal certificate or other religious record
  • Insurance or family records
  • Previously verified school records
