Chromebook Information

Thank you for supporting Durango School District 9-R’s 1:1 Chromebook program.

While the program was executed mid-pandemic, talks and planning had been in place for years prior. Two years after the initial rollout, we’re still learning and adjusting to make this an impactful part of your child’s education. Should your child one day take a job with Alphabet, Uber, Netflix, or Spotify after leaving 9-R or go on to higher education at CU, CSU, LSU, or Harvard, they will be using the very same tools that we use right here in Durango.

Google Workspace at Durango 9-R will help prepare your child for their future by giving them filtered access to the tools necessary to perfect their empathetic collaboration, resilient risk-taking, creative problem-solving, agile thinking, confident communication, and courageous leadership skills– skills absolutely necessary in the workforce and community that your child will be a part of in their future, whatever their future may hold.

An initiative of this magnitude can only be successful with support of everyone from the students to the teachers; parents to the superintendent. We all play a significant role in providing and preserving the resources our kids need to help them succeed in school and beyond.

The district purchases “ruggedized” Chromebooks to help reduce breakages and extend the service life of each unit. No matter how rugged they may be advertised to be, they sometimes get broken. Damage and deterioration from normal wear and tear are covered by the district. However, we desperately need your help with any damages incurred beyond normal wear and tear.

Research indicates that strong curricula supported by robust technology can double the academic achievement of your child. We thank you for your help in keeping our Chromebooks available and operational.

Optional Durango School District Chromebook Insurance Policy:

It is Durango School District’s intent to distribute new Chromebooks to incoming 6th and 9th grade students. Upon distribution of the new device, the student may submit a new non-refundable insurance deposit to cover the new device. This insurance policy is available to 6th – 12th grade students.

Prior to being issued a Chromebook, each middle and high school student can submit a non-refundable $50 insurance deposit to Durango 9-R. This deposit will cover repairs for the first instance of accidental damage. Should a student have a second instance of accidental damage, the parent will be required to pay the first $75 of the repair cost. The repair cost for a third instance of accidental damage is $100. After a third incident, the student is no longer eligible for reduced repair costs and must pay the full repair or replacement cost for their device.

Replacement of lost or stolen devices is also covered by this deposit, provided a report has been filed with the appropriate authorities.

The $50 insurance deposit covers the Chromebook's entire life cycle, it is not a yearly fee. Parents will need to pay $50 for their child’s middle school Chromebook and another $50 for the high school Chromebook allocation. This payment is only required when a new device is issued, not every year.

Any student intentionally damaging or tampering with a device, physically or logically, will be responsible for the entire repair or replacement cost of the device and subject to disciplinary action and may be required to checkout a device for daily use.
