DHS SkillsUSA Receives Top Award

Last year, the chapter received Silver in the Models of Excellence competition. Simply said, Durango's SkillsUSA chapter is one of 8 chosen chapters nationwide in the category of Personal Skills.  Personal Skills is one of 3 elements of The SkillsUSA Framework that also includes Technical Skills and Workplace Skills.  All three of these elements make up the Framework Models of Excellence, now in it's fourth year.  Personal Skills includes: Integrity, Work Ethic, Professionalism, Responsibility, Adaptability/Flexibility, and Self Motivation.

The SkillsUSA Chapter will be recognized next week at the State Conference as a Gold Level Chapter.  The chapter will receive (after commitment to attend and compete) a $2000.00 scholarship for travel to the National Conference in Louisville, KY the last week of June.  There, the team will undergo the opportunity to compete for top framework honors.  At the National Conference, the team will be honored at a recognition dinner and also be recognized on stage in front of the entire U.S. SkillsUSA delegation.

Congratulations to the team sponsor, Shaun Smith, and this year's SkillsUSA Team:
