In addition to their costumes, students created signs stating their word, its definition, antonyms and synonyms of the word, and a sentence using the word. The costumes were a great way for students to remember the meaning of words like surreptitious, piscine, and lustrous.
Vocabulary Day included a short story writing assignment where students had to include five of the vocabulary words chosen by their classmates. The writing assignment found students trying to incorporate incongruous words like villainous and beauteous, or sprightliness and stout. Writing and reading these stories aloud further cemented their understanding of these words.
