What was discussed and reviewed

Preliminary Budget: Kira Horenn, Director of Finance, presented the preliminary 2026-27 Durango School District (DSD) budget.
Turf Field: The Board was presented with the current condition of the Durango High School turf field and options for replacement.
School Consolidation: The Board discussed ideas and parameters for creating a timeline regarding potential school consolidation, noting that the upcoming June 2 workshop with a demographer and the Long Range Planning Committee will help inform next steps.

Consent Agendas: Approved the Board and Superintendent consent agendas, which included the HR consent agenda, April and May 2026 meeting minutes, and a Resolution to Request School Land Dedication Fees from La Plata County.
Superintendent Report: Accepted the Superintendent's OE-04 (Operational Expectation 4 - Personnel Administration) report.
Association Ratification: Ratified articles from the Durango Education Association (DEA) and Durango Education Support Professionals Association (DESPA), including salary schedules, the Master Agreement, and compensation agreements.
Workforce Housing: Authorized the Superintendent (or a designee) to negotiate potential purchase and sale agreements for Phase 2: Workforce Housing.

Public Participation: Heard from five community members on the topics of technology/screen use in classrooms and the successful after-school programs at Sunnyside and Fort Lewis Mesa elementary schools.
Student Recognition: Recognized and thanked our Student Board Members for their contributions, engagement, and leadership during the entire 2025-26 school year.
Association Update: Representatives from DEA and DESPA provided an update on ratification agreements.

Board Work Session: A session focusing on the demographer and Long Range Planning will be held Tuesday, June 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Impact Career Innovation Center (2410 Main Ave., on the Durango High School campus).
