The upcoming groundbreaking for Three Springs Elementary School (TSES) on May 13 marks an exciting milestone for our community and the future of Durango’s students. This new school — funded by the community’s support of the 2024 Investing in Our Schools Bond — represents years of planning, collaboration, and shared vision. It will serve as the future replacement for Florida Mesa Elementary School, with doors anticipated to open in fall 2028.
Why a closed-site groundbreaking?
We know many in the community are interested in being part of this moment, and we truly appreciate that enthusiasm and continued support. However, due to current construction conditions and limited site accessibility, we are unable to safely accommodate a broader public gathering at this time.
We understand this may be disappointing, especially for those who have been following the project closely or were hoping to attend. Please know this decision was made with safety as our top priority.
Community celebration planned for fall 2026
Looking ahead, we are excited to create a more inclusive opportunity for the community to engage with the project. Once roadway construction is complete and the site becomes more accessible, we plan to invite the public to a “peek at our progress” event this fall. This will be a chance for families, neighbors, and supporters to see the school taking shape and to celebrate together in a setting that can safely welcome everyone.
We are deeply grateful to our community for supporting the 2024 Investing in Our Schools Bond and helping make this project possible. Your investment is shaping the future of education in our district, and we look forward to celebrating this progress with you soon.
