What was discussed and reviewed

  • Assessment Results: Philip Werline, Head of School for The Juniper School, presented Middle of Year test results for The Juniper School.

  • Student Performance: Data shared with the Board included iReady reading and math scores for kindergarten through 5th grade, as well as Star reading and math results for 6th through 8th grades.

Actions taken by the Board

  • Consent Agendas: Approved the Board and Superintendent consent agendas, which included the HR consent agenda, February and March 2026 meeting minutes, and various policy edits.

  • Project Funding: Authorized bond contracts for projects at Durango High School, Escalante Middle School, and district facilities.

  • Outdoor Learning: Passed a grant resolution in support of Durango School District's SOIL Outdoor Learning Lab (2900 Mesa Ave., on the Riverview Elementary School campus).

  • Financial Compliance: Found the Superintendent in compliance with policy OE-05 and OE-06 regarding Financial Planning and Financial Administration.

  • Insurance Rates: Approved the insurance rates for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

  • Legislative support: Approved a resolution in support of Senate Bill 26-135, a ballot measure intended to increase state investment in public education.

Community engagement

  • Public Participation: Noted that no members of the community signed up for public participation during this meeting.

  • Arts Celebration: Recognized Youth Art Month with presentations from students and visual arts teachers from every school.

  • Student Exhibition: Viewed selected works from students who answered questions about their pieces, which will be placed on permanent display at the school district offices.
