This milestone represents a great deal of planning, advocacy, and collaboration to address one of the most pressing challenges facing our staff – the availability of attainable/affordable housing in our community. Workforce housing is a critical part of our commitment to recruiting and retaining exceptional educators and support professionals, and to ensuring our staff can continue to live and thrive in the community we serve.
The workforce housing program is designed to support district employees by providing access to housing options that are more attainable in today’s market. This is more than a housing opportunity: It’s an investment in our people and the long-term strength of our schools.
IMPORTANT DETAILS
- Application opens: Monday, January 19, 2026
- Application closes: Monday, February 16, 2026
- Eligibility: All Durango School District employees who are employed in a position that is not a stipend only position (e.g. coaching or activity advisor only), or a day-to-day substitute position, are eligible to apply.
- Location & Floor Plans: Lightner Creek Apartments is located at 20310 US-160, just a 3 mile drive from downtown Durango, and has a mixture of studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom apartments.
- Resources: We strongly encourage interested staff to review all of the published materials on our newly launched workforce housing website as you consider applying. This website will house all information related to the program - workforce housing guidelines, a sample lease agreement, rental rates, and more! We will continue to add to this site as we have more information.
