A message of care and support from our superintendent

Since this event occurred, I have been in contact with the Governor’s Office, the Colorado Department of Education, and the offices of Senator Bennet and Senator Hickenlooper. They all have expressed concerns through their social media channels. Senator Hickenlooper is directly addressing the case, and his office is becoming involved.

We understand that some students and families may be feeling anxious or uncertain. Counseling services are available to any student or staff member who may need support during this time. Our counselors are here to provide a safe space to discuss concerns and offer assistance. Please contact your school's main office to arrange counseling services.

By law, and by our core values, all children — regardless of background or circumstance — are welcome in our schools. We do not collect or share information about immigration status. Our role is to ensure that every student who walks through our doors feels safe, supported, and able to learn.

Our schools are safe and welcoming spaces for every child. Learning cannot happen when students are afraid. We remain committed to supporting all students and families during difficult times and to maintaining an environment where every student feels safe, valued, and able to learn.

These are challenging times. Misinformation can spread quickly, and it’s important to seek clarity from trusted sources. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out directly to us. We are committed to transparency, to sharing accurate information, and to putting students first in all that we do.

Thank you for your time, your trust, and your partnership.

Dr. Karen Cheser
Superintendent
