DSD schools celebrate National Native American Heritage Month with cultural events

November is National Native American Heritage Month — a time to celebrate and honor the cultures, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous peoples. Durango School District (DSD) is proud to have students representing 23 federally recognized tribes, one of the highest levels of tribal diversity in Colorado.

Throughout the month, we invite all school families to join us in learning and celebrating through special events, including an evening with a Navajo magician at Park Elementary, a Night at the Museum with traditional hoop dancers, and an Arts Market and Round Dance.

The Navajo Magician

  • Wednesday, Nov. 5, 5:30–8:30 p.m., Riverview Elementary School gym (2900 Mesa Ave.)

  • Experience an inspirational evening of stage magic from the world’s only professional Navajo magician.

  • Free stew and frybread will be served to the first 250 guests, with additional snacks available for purchase.

  • Sponsored by the Durango Education Foundation.
