School Board Approves 2024-25 and 2025-26 Academic Calendars

In a survey sent to families and staff, Option A was the preferred choice. Families preferred Option A  for both years, by a 59% to 41% margin.

Here are details about this option. The calendars include:
  • Two parent-teacher conference days
  • 11 teacher/staff only days ( 5.5 days of teacher professional development and 
  • 5.5 days of teacher planning) 
  • An Early Release hour on Mondays for teachers and staff to plan collaboratively, participate in intervention team meetings, and engage in cross-district learning and reflection.
  • Possible snow make-up days (these would be used only if approved by the Board as a possible alternative after state-allowed weather days are exhausted). 
  • Alignment of Spring Break with the Fort Lewis College (FLC) calendar due to the hundreds of high school students who take concurrent enrollment in FLC courses.

For the 2024-25 school year, the first day of school will be Aug. 20, 2024 and the last day is May 23, 2025 (barring snow day extensions). View Calendar

74% of respondents preferred their students be in school for Veteran’s Day, and 72% preferred students be in school on Indigenous Peoples Day.

D. Karen Cheser said  “With the uncertainty of COVID behind us, we are happy to return to planning the school calendars for two years at a time. This gives families, staff, and the community the ability to make plans well into the future. We want to thank the community for taking the survey, their input was essential to this decision.”
