There are 20 bus routes across 1,000 square miles in Durango School District 9-R. The routes cover all the way from Purgatory to the state line, with many different road conditions and microclimates. There are 1,700 students registered to ride our buses, out of approximately 4,700 students in the district.
DHS would like to make a request to have the bus drivers nominated for being resilient risk takers. Driving the students in this weather is no easy task and requires patience, care and concentration. They have had to be flexible as routes change due to weather and as buses are late or are delayed. We appreciate them braving the elements. –Sarah Fischer, Administrative Assistant
