Matthew Poling is 9-R's new Director of Nutrition Services. Matt's first job was as a busboy in a restaurant at 15, and he's been in food service ever since. He became a professional chef, then a child nutrition executive chef. He and his wife, Marianna, vacationed in Durango years ago and fell in love with the area. He signed up for 9-R's HR job alerts four years ago. When the Director of Nutrition Services position was recently posted, he jumped at the chance.
Matt says that his role of nourishing young minds is a rewarding, feel good job. “Feeding school kids is doing something good for the community, and the nation. Good nourishment is essential for learning.”
Matt has extensive experience in farm to table, and local food sourcing. In his last position at the Greeley-Evans School District 6, he worked with several farms on the west slope and plans to continue the district’s efforts to build relationships with local farms, and expand those opportunities.
Marianna is also an educator and has recently become the Dean of Students at Miller Middle School. Welcome to Durango and 9-R Matt and Marianna!
