Technology Changes for 2021-22 School Year

Wireless Networks

The wireless networks are undergoing major changes to support the district’s Chromebooks, provide a more equitable environment, and bolster security. All district devices are being transitioned to a new wireless network. The “keys” to this network are centrally distributed to prevent password leaks and unsecure devices on the same network with all of the district’s information. Devices previously on 9R_Internal and 9R_iOS are being transitioned and those networks will be decommissioned.

All iPads or other mobile devices will need to be enrolled in the Mobile Device Manager (MDM) in order to gain access to the wireless network.

In order to accommodate the sheer numbers of district owned devices, 9R_Public will be replaced by D9R-Public that will only be available from 3:15pm to 8:15am.

The heavily restricted D9R-Guest will be available for non-district guests, presenters, etc. who need internet access for presentations, collaborative work, or general internet access while in the building. It has a relatively low bandwidth limit in order to preserve the internet for 9-R devices.

Office 365

Our Microsoft Office licensing has changed and we are now using Office 365 to provide staff access to the Office products. Most staff will receive a license that provides full access to the desktop version of Office 365. Some non-instructional staff will receive a different license that only provides access to the online version of Office 365.

To access the online version go to https://www.office.com/ and use your 9-R Gmail username and password. The desktop Office does not run on Chromebooks so you will need to use the  online version.

Clever

Clever, a single sign-on and rostering application, will be used as a replacement for the Weblinks this year. Students and teachers can login to Clever using their Google credentials to jump to numerous online applications with a single click. On the backend, Technology and SIS can roster data to, and set up single sign-on to these applications, saving everyone time. The youngest students will be able to use ‘Clever Badges’ to login using the Chromebook’s camera.

The 9-R Clever portal can be found anywhere you used to find the Weblinks or you can bookmark this link:

Account Automation and Student Passwords

This fall we will be implementing a program that will see the automatic creation of student and staff accounts once they have been entered into Infinite Campus. This will make it so that students will have access to their Google Workspace and likewise Chromebooks much more quickly and will alleviate the need for students to log into a Windows computer first in order to “set” their Google Workspace password.

For elementary students the password convention has changed slightly to facilitate the use of the new provisioning program. Teachers and some support staff will be sent an additional email with the new password convention.
