Current Cost Escalation/Market Conditions
We are seeing an average of 24% annual increase year over year in construction cost escalation since 2020 due to supply shortages, manufacturer product delays, shipping and delivery delays for our recent projects. looking 2021 to 2022 data will be evaluated.
New Project Updates
Miller Middle School
The schematic Design is complete, CM/GC estimate is in progress while the Design Development begins. We will begin issuing an RFP to the asbestos consultant in March/April. Commissioning RFP has been issued, and the sustainability/CHPS Kick-Off completed.
Career and Innovation Center
Schematic Design submittals are in March; CM/GC estimate to follow. Weekly DAG’s will end with the Schematic Design submittal and go to a Miller style DAG schedule. Sustainability/CHPS Kick-Off is completed.
Renovation Projects
Vestibules
Construction Documents in progress and under review for secure vestibule improvements at: Park ES, Fort Lewis Mesa ES, Sunnyside ES, Florida Mesa ES, Escalante MS, and Durango High School. Summer 2022 priority projects are located at Durango High School, Escalante Middle School, Animas Valley and Needham Elementary Schools. An early procurement package for long lead items has been executed. BEST grant application has been submitted.
Roofing
Bidding is complete for Phase 1 at: Park ES, Fort Lewis Mesa ES, Sunnyside ES, Needham ES for Summer 2022 projects. Contracts were approved by BOE at the March 8 Work Session. Documents have been submitted to State for permit review. Construction documents are being finalized for Phase 2 at: Florida Mesa ES, Riverview ES, Escalante MS, Durango HS for Summer 2023/24 projects.
Asphalt / Concrete
Bidding complete for projects at: Animas Valley ES – west trail and concrete repairs, Needham ES – parking lot and circulation, removal of tennis courts, Riverview ES – playground asphalt maintenance, and Sunnyside ES and Escalante MS – parking lot repairs. Only received a bid for Needham ES. Moving forward with that project and re-evaluating strategy for the other 4 projects.
Durango High Schools Improvements
The Schematic Design is to be submitted with Career and Innovation Center, addressing coordination of parking lot design. Scope of project includes HVAC upgrades, accessibility issues, doors/lockers, interior finish repairs, and is planned for Summer 2023.
Needham Elementary School Improvements
Construction Documents are being finalized, the scope includes select HVAC upgrades, doors & windows, interior finish repairs and select flooring. 1st early procurement package approved for mechanical, electrical, plumbing. 2nd early procurement package in progress for remaining long lead items – doors, hardware, storefront, and glass.
Park Elementary School Improvements
Construction Documents are being finalized. The scope includes select HVAC upgrades, exterior & interior finish repair, select flooring, kitchen improvements, and exterior door & window improvements.

Sunnyside ES Improvements
Construction Documents are in progress, the scope includes select HVAC and controls upgrades, door & window improvements, and interior & exterior finish repairs. Early procurement package for long lead items executed for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, doors, hardware, storefront, glass materials.
Transportation
New buses have been ordered and received.
Charter Schools Allocation
All contracts are in place with each Charter School.
Juniper Elementary School has withdrawn 66% of their available funds.
Mountain Middle School has withdrawn 80% of their available funds.
Animas High School has withdrawn 100% of their available funds.
