DHS Students Selected to Colorado All State Band

Congratulations to the students from Durango High School who were selected for Colorado All State Band, Orchestra, and Choir! The All State Concert Band is comprised of 102 students representing 40 high schools. A total of 934 students from 153 schools participated in the recent All-State Band auditions. Durango High School is excited to announce that five of their student musicians were selected Colorado All State Band, Orchestra, and Choir.

Durango School District 9-R announces two key hires. Mike Awe of Durango recently joined the district as its new director of Technology. Awe comes to the district with a 30-year background in technology implementation, infrastructure and support needs for large businesses and corporations.

New Student Tracking System for 9-R Buses

Durango School District 9-R is proud to announce the implementation of the Student Tracking System on our school buses. All students will be issued Student IDs this year that will work interactively with our bus tracking system, as well as other systems in the school, such as the library. Using the cards, students will scan when they get on and off the buses. This new safety feature allows the Transportation Department, our schools, parents, and guardians to follow bus schedules and routes, and whether or not their student is on the bus. With the Student Tracking System, the school district is able to increase its safety measures and identification processes for all students.

This month's Fort Lewis College and Durango High School FORTitude award goes to DHS junior Mary Fenberg. Mary was nominated by her AP Chemistry teacher Ann Tidwell for her passion for the sciences, her academic commitment, and the kindness she shows to others.

Kids' Camp Students Explore the Water Cycle

Through a partnership with The Garden Project of Southwest Colorado many of our Kids' Camp students were able to enrich their understanding of science standards through fun hands-on activities. They've been exploring the water cycle, gaining understanding of soil and soil conservation, and learning about local vs. global food systems.

Hour of Code: A Global Movement Comes to 9-R

The vision for Hour of Code is that every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn computer science, just like biology, chemistry or algebra. Code.org organizes the annual Hour of Code campaign which has engaged 10% of all students in the world, and provides the leading curriculum for K-12 computer science in the largest school districts in the United States.
