“School counselors make significant contributions to the overall well being of students and their success,” said Richard Wong, Executive Director, American School Counselor Association. “They have unique qualifications and skills that allow them to address students’ academic achievement, social/emotional and career development needs.”
Stephanie was nominated by peers and administration for her continued work and success at Park Elementary. Needham Counselor, Sallie Kautter, said in her award presentation:
"Ms. Trudeaux has developed a comprehensive school counseling program for 500 students at Park Elementary school that provides education, prevention and intervention services. Early identification and intervention of children’s academic and social/emotional needs is essential in removing barriers to learning and in promoting academic achievement. The knowledge, attitudes and skills students acquire in the areas of academic, career and social development during these elementary years serve as the foundation for future success. Ms. Trudeaux is an educator and counselor who understands and responds to the challenges presented by Park's diverse student population. Stephanie Trudeaux engages students, parents, and teachers to develop a comprehensive program that services all students to achieve school success and a passion for learning.
Stephanie knows that counselors are in a prime position to support the kids and issues that they bring to school and she does the job perfectly."
The 2016 School Counselors of the Year will be recognized at the Colorado School Counselor Association Annual Conference on November 9-11 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Awards Dinner will be November 10, 2016, at the Antlers in downtown Colorado Springs.
