Read the recap of the Feb. 24 Board Regular Session

What was discussed and reviewed

  • Assessment Gains: Superintendent Dr. Laurie Rossback provided an overview of middle-of-year assessments that showed student progress in nearly every grade level and subject.

  • Early Literacy: DIBELS 8 results for kindergarten through 5th grade showed an average increase of 9% since the beginning of the year.

  • Elementary Progress: i-Ready assessments for K-5th grade reading and math showed an average increase of 21% from the start of the year.

  • Secondary Achievement: STAR results for grades 6-12 reading and math showed an average of 1% at or above state proficiency.

Actions taken by the Board

  • Agenda Approval: Board members approved the Board and Superintendent Consent Agendas, which included HR items, January and February meeting minutes, Title 1 Waivers, Bond bid packages, furniture purchases, and change orders.

  • Policy Compliance: The Board found the Superintendent to be in compliance with policy OE-07 regarding Asset Protection.

  • Calendar Adoption: Officials approved the academic calendar for the 2027-28 school year.

  • New Appointment: The Board appointed Grace Morledge as Board of Education Director, District D.

Community engagement

  • Board Vacancy: The Board interviewed four candidates to fill the open District D seat appointment.

  • Public Participation: No members of the community signed up for the public participation portion of the meeting.

Upcoming

  • Work Session: A Board Work Session is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, at Park Elementary School (510 E. 6th Ave.).

  • Regular Meeting: A Regular Board Meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, at the Impact Career Innovation Center (2410 Main Ave., on the Durango High School campus).
