February 2026 bond update: Three Springs Elementary construction on track and workforce housing lottery results announced

Citizen Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC)

The committee continues to meet monthly with the purpose of overseeing the process, validating that spending conforms to ballot language, and reviewing the budget.

Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC)

The committee last met in February, continuing its focus on developing a long-term school replacement plan and considering ideas for converting and repurposing the Florida Mesa Elementary School (FMES) campus to expand Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming once Three Springs Elementary School comes online. The committee still aims to bring a recommendation to the Board of Education this school year, but that has been slightly delayed due to overlapping work with our Budget Committee

Three Springs Elementary School

The Design Advisory Group Steering Committee meets in the upcoming weeks to review all user group work and finalize plans. We are very close to 100% construction drawings. Also, the City of Durango approved the land subdivision and the related roadway work. Our goal, weather dependent, is to start work on the roadway as early as March/April 2026, and we are still on track to start construction of the school in summer 2026.

Workforce Housing

The district ran our first housing lottery with applications open from Jan. 19, 2026, to Feb. 16, 2026. During this time, we received 28 applications for housing. We do reserve a small number of units for recruiting purposes as part of the program. Working closely with our property manager, we will determine what, if any, additional availability we may offer this year. Work continues in the background to determine the district's next steps regarding expansion of this program. The district published a Request for Information (RFI) last semester and is currently reviewing developer responses.

Elimination of Leased Facilities

Renovation work continues on Durango Big Picture High School's (DBPHS) new space, and they are set to move into their new facility in fall 2026.
