How to register for kindergarten
Registration for the 2026-27 school year officially opened Feb. 2, 2026. To be eligible for kindergarten, students must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2026. Parents can register online via the Infinite Campus system and will need to provide proof of residency, immunization records, and proof of age.

Families of rising kindergartners are encouraged to attend the following events this spring to learn about programs, meet school staff, and build a strong start for their child’s educational journey.
READY! for Kindergarten Caregiver Workshop Series: Starts Feb. 12
In partnership with the Early Childhood Council of La Plata County, DSD is hosting a free three-part series designed for parents of children ages 4-5. These workshops provide strategies and tools to nurture a child's natural curiosity and development, and parents are asked to commit to attending all three sessions.

All sessions will be held at the Needham Elementary School library (2425 W. 3rd Ave.). Childcare and a light dinner will be provided.
Kinder Curious: March 25
On Wednesday, March 25, at 8:30-9:30 a.m., all district elementary schools will host Kinder Curious. This adults-only drop-in event offers a behind-the-scenes look at kindergarten in action and time to ask questions.

Kindergarten and Preschool Open House: April 9
Families and incoming students are invited to explore their new campuses on Thursday, April 9, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. This is an opportunity for students to meet teachers and school staff and learn about what the next year will bring. For questions, please contact the front office of the school your child will attend.
Kindergarten screenings: April 20, April 22, and May 2
Kindergarten screenings help families understand their child’s current skills and how to support learning before school begins. Students participate in a 45-minute global screener, and families receive feedback, take-home materials, and strategies to practice essential skills.
