What was discussed and reviewed

  • Demographics: Western Demographics presented data showing regional demographic shifts and a projected enrollment decline in Durango School District that aligns with broader regional trends.

  • Student Support: Dr. Vanessa Giddings shared beginning-of-year SSIS (Social Skills Improvement System) results, which reflected improvement at every grade level from prior years and a positive overall trajectory.

  • Superintendent Report: The superintendent presented the OE-08 (Operational Expectation 8: Communication With and Support for the Board) report for annual monitoring.

Actions taken by the Board

  • Approved the Board and Superintendent consent agendas, including the HR consent agenda and October meeting minutes.

  • Approved a contract for new security cameras.

  • Agreed to informally recognize Native American Heritage Month and National Special Education Day this school year, with formal resolutions to be adopted at future meetings.
