Sunnyside Zipline Dedicated to Jeff Kuss

On Thursday, February 9th Sunnyside Elementary welcomed the family of the late Jeff Kuss, a Blue Angels pilot, to the dedication of the school's zipline and buddy bench. These new playground features have been dedicated to the memory of Jeff Kuss, who attended Sunnyside Elementary. Principal Patrick Hyatt encouraged students to chase their dreams as Jeff did, saying of the zipline, "Jeff flew, now you students can also fly." Principal Hyatt also presented Jeff' parent's Michael and Janet, and brother Eric with a Bulldog Proud award in recognition Jeff's life and achievements.

DHS DECA Students Recognized by Ski Barn for Ad Campaign

Kenny Malara and Jackson Lacek of the Ski Barn recognized top performers in Durango High School’s Social Media, Advertising and Professional Sales (SMAPS) class for their work in creating a comprehensive advertising campaign for the locally owned business.

Students teams created unique advertising materials centered around a theme designed to reach Ski Barn’s customer profiles. The teams, or “advertising agencies” presented their plans while competing for top prizes from the Ski Barn in a variety of categories.

DHS Students Selected to Colorado All State Band

Congratulations to the students from Durango High School who were selected for Colorado All State Band, Orchestra, and Choir! The All State Concert Band is comprised of 102 students representing 40 high schools. A total of 934 students from 153 schools participated in the recent All-State Band auditions. Durango High School is excited to announce that five of their student musicians were selected Colorado All State Band, Orchestra, and Choir.

New Student Tracking System for 9-R Buses

Durango School District 9-R is proud to announce the implementation of the Student Tracking System on our school buses. All students will be issued Student IDs this year that will work interactively with our bus tracking system, as well as other systems in the school, such as the library. Using the cards, students will scan when they get on and off the buses. This new safety feature allows the Transportation Department, our schools, parents, and guardians to follow bus schedules and routes, and whether or not their student is on the bus. With the Student Tracking System, the school district is able to increase its safety measures and identification processes for all students.
