Winter Break Meal Baskets

Since the start of the 2020/21 school year, the 9-R Nutrition Services staff has been pulling off tremendous feats. They had to be nimble and flexible to come up with lunch options for the high school after it closed campus, how to support students in the school and those in remote situations as well, and identifying ways to deliver meals across the county.

Since the district had to move back to remote learning in mid-November, the Nutrition Services team has been providing 2,000 meals a day, including breakfast and lunch, to children 0-18. Families and students who would like these meals need to pre-order online the week prior. In addition to being able to pick up the meals from all school sites, there are also a number of remote pick-up locations along bus routes that bus drivers are delivering as well.

As the holiday season is upon us, the Nutrition Services team is assembling 1,000 meal packets, containing 5,000 total meals, to be distributed to students on Friday, December 18, 2020. These packets include a breakfast and a lunch for 5 days, as well as recipe cards and instructions for keeping the food fresh. Extra bags are also being prepared for those identified families that regularly access meal supports but are unable to order online or pre-order.

Students and families who are already signed up for remote meal services, or have regularly been picking up at a site or bus stop, on Friday will automatically receive one of these amazing WINTER BREAK BASKETS! Please note that these packages weigh close to 14 pounds, so please plan accordingly for picking them up on Friday at your normal pick up location and time.

If you did not register for remote meal services on Friday but would like to receive a Winter Break Basket, please contact your school office to make arrangements.

Thank you to all the amazing Nutrition Services staff for their continued support of families and ensuring fresh, health meals are available, and for taking it that extra mile to support families over the holiday break by distributing more than 14,000 pounds of food. This is a truly amazing team!
