Welcome to Durango School District- an innovative educational system committed to excellence. We have welcoming schools, caring teachers, and a dedicated staff. Our high performing district is located in La Plata County in Southwest Colorado, at the foot of the beautiful La Plata and San Juan Mountains. Durango is a friendly, vibrant mountain town, with the Animas river coursing through. Our students have ample opportunities for hands-on learning and activities in the great outdoors. We serve approximately 4,400 students in 8 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 2 high
schools, and online and homeschool options. The district has nearly 900 staff, and is a great place to work. Our 440 dedicated teachers form the essential foundation to help our students achieve academic success. Our primary goal is to help every student achieve their goal and purpose in life. We help them find a pathway that combines their passions and talents into a career that the world needs. Our district is unified by Portrait of a Graduate, a shared vision of the qualities our graduates need to become positive contributors to society, and have a good quality of life.
