Research confirms that breakfast is the most important meal of the day for children’s health, academic achievement, cognitive development and mental health.
Lack of breakfast can be contributed to busy morning schedules, transportation schedules, or just not being hungry first thing in the morning.
How can the cafeteria in your child’s school help your child to reach higher levels of achievement in math and reading, concentrate better, be more alert, retain more of what they learn, and participate in class? Provide a balanced breakfast that is either at low or no cost to your students each morning.
Each day our elementary and middle schools offer breakfast before school. Each meal contains whole grain items, fresh fruit, and milk. For students that don’t make it to school before the bell, Needham Elementary, Riverview Elementary, Sunnyside Elementary, Escalante Middle School, and Miller Middle School, are offering a “Grab and Go” menu at a second time during the morning.
All students who participate in the Free and Reduced Meal Program may eat breakfast for FREE. If your Free and Reduced Meal Program child eats prior to coming to school, they are still eligible to participate in the “Grab and Go” breakfast for FREE and eat the items as a mid-morning snack, which will help them concentrate until lunch.
Paid students may purchase a “Grab and Go” breakfast either before the first bell at school or during the “Grab and Go” breakfast time at their site. Elementary students pay $1.50 and middle school students pay $1.75 for the full meal, which consists of whole grains, fruit, and milk. Students may purchase a la carte items such as fresh fruit, muffins, breakfast bars, bagels, milk, and yogurt at very reasonable cost. If you struggle to provide snacks, or find your child struggles to make it from breakfast to lunch, this “Grab and Go” breakfast provides the convenience you need.
