District Weekly Update - 4. 28.20

As shared last week, the Governor has ordered all schools to remain closed to in person instruction this year. While we had been preparing for a possible reopening if conditions allowed, we will shift our focus to planning for next year while continuing to provide home based support for the rest of the school year. To that end, included here is a survey that we are asking ALL families to complete.

If we do not hear from you, your school may contact you to collect this critical information for the school district. Please complete only one survey per household, as the survey allows you to input information for each child should you have more than one child.
Click HERE to access the survey and additional details.

McDonald's is offering teacher recognition this year for the outstanding effort at making learning engaging for students in this "Home-Based-Learning" model.  This “Above and Beyond the Call” or ABC Award will be awarded to a teacher from each school in the district during the week of Memorial Day.  I encourage parents to email me at DSnowberger@durangoschools.org with nominations, a brief explanation of the supports provided by your child’s teacher, and any pictures that can highlight this amazing work and its impact on their children.  Please put ABC Award in the subject. The district may use these nominations for other recognitions available in the district.

In support of the Durango 9-R’s transition to remote learning during its pandemic response, the district is offering limited direct technology support access to students. Information on these services are identified below.
Please click HERE to access the page, which is also available in the For Families link and in the Remote Learning button in the subnavigation bar.

We continue to offer meals to our children up to age 18 Monday-Friday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at any elementary school site.  Each meal bag contains a lunch and a breakfast.  We do have some pre-identified bus stops for remote locations and those can be found on the district’s website at www.durangoschools.org/meals/.
If you haven’t participated in the past, we do ask that you go to a school site where extra food is available should we run short on prepared meals.  This Friday, May 1, is a day off for students and staff on the original calendar.  Meals on Thursday will include two lunches and two breakfasts.  On Thursday, we are also excited to offer a chocolate treat provided by Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, McDonald’s Value Meal coupons, and the continued food Backpack’s from Manna.  A big thank you to these community sponsors for contributing to these meals.

Registration is now open for existing and new families.  Click HERE for more information.
