School Resource Officers

Officer Leonard Martinez

School Resource Officer Leonard Martinez began his career with the Durango Police Department in November of 1993. He has worked numerous positions within the department, and was assigned as the first full-time SRO for Durango High School in August of 2000. Besides being Durango High School’s School Resource Officer, Officer Martinez has also attended numerous School Resource Officer trainings and has achieved an Advanced Certification for his position.

Officer Jim Martindale

Officer Martindale was born in Rochester New York, but soon after became a resident of Phoenix, Arizona. In 1990 Officer Martindale visited a friend in Durango and two weeks later, Officer Martindale had left his job as a Food Service Manager in Arizona to move to Durango. As he continued on his food service venture, Officer Martindale met several outstanding officers with the Durango Police Department and became interested in Law Enforcement.

Officer Pete Malberg

Born and raised in Durango and fourth-generation Durangoan, Officer Peter Malberg decided to become a Police Officer in Durango because of his desire to keep Durango a safe place for his family and friends to live.

Officer Chris Burke

Officer Burke has been with the Sheriff's office since 2000. He is a former Marine Veteran and loves this country and the freedoms we have today in America.

Officer Burke enjoys mountain recreation including: hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and fishing. He has two children and his wife is a registered nurse.

Officer Preston Rae

Officer Preston Rea is a 4th generation native to the area. After working in the volunteer fire service with Los Pinos Fire Protection District in Ignacio for six years, Preston completed the first night academy held in Durango at the Southwest Regional Law Enforcement Academy in 1999 and went to work for the Southern Ute Police Department.
